Oshkosh to supply new US military vehicles

AMC had to spin off their military division to be purchased by Renault. While AMC was later sold to Chrysler, “AM General,” the former AMC military group, continued independently. Their “Humvees” (and the civilian Hummers) became an icon, seen around the world, on movies, and on television screens.

As the vehicles’ design aged, the military sought replacements. Reportedly, Chrysler tried to bid on the project but was unable to make the list of finalists, which ended up as being Lockheed, AM General, and Wisconsin-based Oshkosh. Today, the winner was announced: Oshkosh, taking away AM General’s iconic descendent of the original American Bantam-designed Jeeps.
